Have you ever felt like you were on the moon? That’s exactly how the landscape on Pachnes Mountain in Crete feels like. Join us for an extraordinary hiking and running experience, where you can enjoy stunning sunsets and the enchanting glow of the full moon.
We will meet in Anopoli, Crete. Upon arrival, we will divide into two groups based on interests: one for running enthusiasts and another for hikers seeking a more leisurely pace. Each group will have the opportunity to explore and appreciate the unique surroundings of Pachnes.
We begin our tour by embarking on a thrilling journey to Pachnes Mountain in the back of open trucks. The fun starts here as we feel the wind in our hair sitting in the back of the trucks as we slowly make our way up the mountains getting spectacular views of Sfakia and the southern coastline.
After a scenic one-hour drive, we’ll reach the start of the trail. Together, we will ascend to the summit of Pachnes, reaching it just in time to witness a mesmerizing sunset. Prepare to be captivated as you overlook the entire island of Crete, taking in the vast expanse before you.
We will pause at the summit for a small picnic, immersing ourselves in the magical atmosphere that unfolds as the full moon illuminates the white mountains.
As the sun sets on one side, the moon will rise on the other, creating an ethereal ambiance. Descending from the peak, we will navigate the trail together under the gentle glow of the full moon, creating a unique and enchanting experience. No need for headlamps as the moonlight guides our way, revealing the breathtaking landscapes that surround us.
Upon reaching the base of Pachnes, our trucks will be waiting to transport us back to Anopoli. We will conclude the tour with a delectable meal at a local taverna, savoring the flavors of traditional Cretan cuisine.
The hiking portion of the tour is expected to take approximately three hours, covering a distance of four miles (6 kilometers) with a vertical gain of 1,400 feet (400 metres). We recommend bringing warm clothing such as a jacket, hat, and gloves, as it will be chilly at the summit and during the drive back in the trucks. Additionally, please ensure you have enough water for the duration of the tour, and rest assured that a small picnic will be provided for enjoyment at the mountain’s peak.

Please note we will check the weather the day before as if too windy we will not be able to summit.
